Well, I went to the shop this AM and was going to try to turn some pens. I turned on my lathe and it would ONLY run at the slowest possible speed (Turncrafter Pro VS). I could, even, grab the wheel at the headstock end and stop the lathe from spinning. I had noticed some intermittent problems last week with the speed slowing way down and, then, speeding back up. I kind of thought I had a problem in the wings. After turning the lathe off and on several times I decided that the problem was, now, more permanent. After visiting with several friends I came up with 2 conclusions. #1 - The lathe is, probably, still under warranty, #2 - It is, most likely, a problem with the circuit board. I will get more info re: this when I talk to PSI in the am. My frustration is that this lathe is just a little over a year old.
I, now, began to look at all options and, in discussing the same with my wife, I presented 2 choices - repair or replace. Her reply was "do both, that way you will have a replacement if something goes wrong. Besides, I'm sure you will find use for a 2nd lathe." Fortunately JET has a sale on now and I was able to order the JET 1220 VS lathe for $510 (an upgrade as my Turncrafter is a 10 x 14). Ordering from Amazon I even got free shipping. I am getting enthused to get the new "toy"!
Due to all of this problem I am not going to be able to do much turning until I get the JET. However, I have ordered a top of the line pen vise from Paul in OKC and it should arrive in a day or two. I guess I will give my drill press and the new vise a serious workout drilling out a large number of blanks so I can be ready for turning as soon as the new lathe arrives!
Sorry for the lengthy post. I just thought I'd bring all of you up to date!
