So I've been working on a logwood burl pen for a customer and I'm on my third try at finishing it. I'm doing a CA finish. My problem is not the actual finish, but a tiny crack in the wood that I can't seem to get to seal. If I put the CA on without the lathe running, eventually the thickness of the accumulating CA covers it. Then, I sanded it just a little to smooth it a bit. I inspected and the crack was not visible. After that, I applied CA/BLO with the lathe running. I think the heat caused expansion and the crack to reopen. If I just skip the CA/BLO and wet sand with micro mesh to keep it cool, will that keep the crack from opening once it's done? I thought soaking it with thin CA would do the trick, but it doesn't seem to wick into the crack. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Not sure how to try and help you on this one. First, I am not that familiar with this wood. Is the wood resinous or oily?
Second, is the crack in the wood or in the CA layers?
How did you clean the blank prior to start of applying the finish?
Post a little more info and we can try to help.

The wood is only a little oily, I think. The crack is actually in the wood, but like I said, the CA doesn't seem to want to seep into it. I cleaned the blank with lacquer thinner and made sure it dried before applying the finish (I do this with all pens without any problems).

Yesterday, I got frustrated and just took a burr tool on a Dremel to put a little groove where the crack is. I'm slowly filling that with CA and I think it might work.
