So I've been working on a logwood burl pen for a customer and I'm on my third try at finishing it. I'm doing a CA finish. My problem is not the actual finish, but a tiny crack in the wood that I can't seem to get to seal. If I put the CA on without the lathe running, eventually the thickness of the accumulating CA covers it. Then, I sanded it just a little to smooth it a bit. I inspected and the crack was not visible. After that, I applied CA/BLO with the lathe running. I think the heat caused expansion and the crack to reopen. If I just skip the CA/BLO and wet sand with micro mesh to keep it cool, will that keep the crack from opening once it's done? I thought soaking it with thin CA would do the trick, but it doesn't seem to wick into the crack. Any help is greatly appreciated.
