My local supplier sold me French polish and a wax stick to finish pens. Does this finish last? I haven't used it yet, because I've been experimenting with CA finish. Does the CA finish last longer?

The answere is no and yes. French polish is another name for friction polish. It and the wax stick look good when applied but most agree is does not last. CA finish is one of the longest lasting finishes.

When I got started turning I made my own friction polish and wax stick.

French Polish: 1/3 clear shellac, 1/3 BLO, 1/3 denatured alcohol
Wax Stick: 1/2 beeswax, 1/2 carnuba ( melted together and poured into round travel toothbrush tubes )

there are many finishes to choose from. some folks like the feel of wood, some want shine, some want no finish at all.
some want so on and so on and so on.

An easy way to test all the finishes yourself is to turn a few blanks about 2 inches long, then put different finishes on them. Then the fun part, put them in your pocket, then during the course of the day jiggle them all around in your pocket like you would with change every time you think about it.
Do this as long as you want, weeks, months, or until you get aressted.

For your customers that want the feel of wood and little finish, all you need to do is tell them to hit it with furniture polish evey once in awhile "just like fine furniture"
