I realize that this is no big deal to the machinists on here and it's a long way from what the "Rat" can do, but for me, it's the beginning of lots of metal shavings.

The pic is a bit crappy, but this is a steel rod that I reduced the diameter, cut a shoulder, faced, and cut a taper. It is a pretty smooth finish, even though the pic doesn't show it. The pic does show a reflection of the stuff on my truck though.
I used a bit that I ground at work today, my first time.

Over all, I'm pleased.

Doze,
I've cut enough steell, aluminum and stainless steel chips to fill up an average size warehouse with the chips, and I see nothing you've done wrong.
Keep it up.

Very nice. I can feel your excitement.

Thanks. It is exciting, something new.

I do see a need for the QCTP right away. It was a real pain trying to shim the cutter to get it centered. Not to mention the three capscrews that need to be loosened and tightened each time.

I'm going to get some aluminum rod and cutters this weekend and see how much damage I can do.

Looks like your going to have a blast. Will we have to start calling you Skip Mite in a year or so?

I think it will take much longer than that to reach that level.

That is the unobtainable! Some people have a gift and then there are people like me... struggle to find a gift. If my lathe see's half the talent that Skip's has, it would be very fortunate.
