Its Fostner drill bit, 40mm without metal insert, 42mm if an insert is used.

Indeed,there is. I have only used a beech pins in drilled holes,so with every joint a bit of lean,and it sums up of course...also,te weight of remaining parts acts on the joints as they are eccentric...thats definitely something I must improve...

What if you glued each cookie to its partner one at a time starting with the top one and working down.
I would use Titebond and glue the cookie as well as the beech pin unless each cookie rotates. If that's the case, it's a whole different beast.

Thanks for the drill bit info. I would drill each one and attach with a short piece of dowel glued in the light base.
