Fall detection watch

Any suggestions for something similar to the iWatch. Have a friend that needs one but does not have an iPhone.

The iWatches with the ability to tie directly into cell services don't need a cell phone to make the call. Cost due to the cell service is more though.

I will call Apple later but this what I have so far.... Copy/Paste>>No, you cannot get an
Apple Watch for fall detection without an iPhone because an iPhone is required for the initial setup, management, and software updates, though a GPS + Cellular model can call emergency services independently after setup if you have service, without the iPhone nearby for calls. The watch relies on the iPhone's connection (cellular/Wi-Fi) for emergency calls, unless it's the cellular model, which uses its own connection, but still needs the iPhone to get started.
 
I "Think" - if you are near an Apple Store or even an ATT, or Verizon or T-Mobile, Get a Manager and I "think: they may be able to set it up. It does need to be an Apple Watch WITH cellular ability.

Here is what Google says:

a cellular Apple Watch can be used without an iPhone nearby for calls, texts, apps, and streaming, provided it has an active cellular plan and you've set it up initially with an iPhone
, allowing it to function independently for many tasks like emergency calls, fitness tracking, and Apple Pay. It uses cellular or Wi-Fi to stay connected, but some advanced features might need the paired iPhone.


If the words "Apple Watch" is used it might respond in the negative but if "Apple CELLULAR Watch" is used , then yes it can after it is set up. Go to an Apple Store or ATT, Verizon, or T-Moble and ask for someone who has done this.
 
Person it's for has an android phone... I'm totally lost with that system. No idea what it does and does not do.
 
We were recently on a cruise on the Nile in Egypt. A fellow traveler (in his late 80's) got up and started dancing with the Belly Dancer. The music was loud, he's jumping around having a great time, and suddenly his phone goes off. When he answered it was his family back in California very concerned and asking if he was OK. His watch had gotten confused and thought he had fallen, and sent a distress call back to his family.😂
 
What about those push a button things and you wear around your neck. You can talk over them too. Forgot the name but you see the commercials all the time.

Those work too but you have to be able push the button and or talk, where as "fall detection" dials 911 and family with the precise location even if you can't or are unconscious.

The person I am researching for does not have a landline...regardless he fell a few times and somehow got up. He is currently in the hospital.

The Apple Watch comes in 2 basic kinds not including glitz, glamour, or sports of entry level price: Type one works in conjunction with an iPhone and depends on the iPhone to do the calling so that the iPhone needs to be close by; or the second type has its own phone hardware built in - in other words this watch is a small cell phone on its own. No landline needed.

The land line.... I'd get him a Life-Line system. (understood the line has nothing to do with an iWatch). My wife and I have iWatches paired with our iPhones. As of now I'm suggesting he has a Life Line system of some kind. He will not be driving for a while... More concerned with him alone in his house when he gets discharged. He did fall a few times.... I know of a person that fell in the bathroom and was there all night...and another that fell and was found a few days later dead. I apologize for this thread/subject. I absolutely hate it but dealing with it.
 
As an additional safety measure ... My wife insisted her mother have Alexa throughout the house. When she fell at 2am she was able to holler to Alexa to call me. For "reasons" Alexa can't call 911, but it can call somebody who can.

BTW, my wife went whole hog ... All the lights and fans were on Alexa, and she could even have the front door unlocked for firefighters.

The samsung fall detection watch uses my smart phone to call 911. No landline required. I did have the fire department come out and put in a key lock box so they can access a house key in an emergency.
