I want to color the 2 part epoxy for blanks that are slightly transparent. I did so today while gluing a ring core into an acrylic blank. I used Resin Dye. The epoxy is hardened but has a gummy surface. It should have cured. Not sure if it's the garage humidity, epoxy going bad or the dye is effecting the curing. What is the preferred way to color 2 part? What was the best type of coloring or dye material to use? Thanks, Frank

Are you sure that the colorant is suitable for your epoxy resin. I need to wait a week before I can turn my epoxyblanks. After a day in the pressurepot they are hard. But the inside needs time to harden out. It differ a lot what kind of epoxy you use. I would call/mail your supplier.

Not sure at all. I'm only gluing a blank to a ring core… or a pen blank to a brass tube. The first time I added a few drops the epoxy seemed to be watery instead of gummy. I discarded and tried again using less dye. I read acrylic paint added to epoxy will work. I might fiddle with that.
The next time I try it I'll simply let the epoxy cure on the mixing pad to see how it hardens. I'm simply trying to keep the core from shining through.

For pens, instead of coloring the epoxy, I paint the inside of the blank before gluing the brass tube in. It puts the color right against the blank and prevents any voids in the epoxy from showing through. I'm not a ring maker so I don't know if the same process would apply for gluing ring blanks and cores. - Dave

Goal… tint a small amount of 2 part before applying. Dye shown in post 1 does not work.

Won't work on a ring core or the blank. The
blank will not adhere properly…
