Got this blank from my mate George in South Aust. He was told it was a "Carob" tree, then some investigation proved it was definitely not that. Then some seed pods were produced which indicated that the tree was one of the "Kurrajongs", but the guys who cut the trees down told George that the pods came from one of the other trees. So it is still a mystery:confused:
Anyway, regardless of which species, the timber is very nice. The smaller bowl was cored out from the blank. The big bowl is 9.75in x 3.75in and the smaller one is 6.25in x 2.25in.

Comments welcome.:)

Sorry Bob, that wood is all gone...! a gigantic "rodent" come through last night and chew the whole lot...!:mad::wink::biggrin: just kidding mate, you will have some more of it to enjoy, when you're ready...!:)

I was pleasantly surprised when I turned a large bowl as a gift to the tree owner, the timber was green so I rough turned it within a couple of days of the tree being cut, put it a side and 4 or 5 weeks later, I looked at it and that thing didn't move a millimetre and looked dry enough to finish.

I couldn't believe you smooth the wood was to work and finish, little effort and the wood was supper fine, great stuff.

I'm attaching a few pics of the one I done, I have absolutely no intention to high-jack your thread, and much less compete or compare the work done, we mates I would never do that. The pic shows another bowl made from the same wood, and with a different finish (Floorseal), some pics are close ups and they show in more detail the interesting grain of this wood, that should satisfy alamocdc...!

Did I say, I like your work, Bob...???

Cheers
George

You're welcome George, it's great to see other work from the same tree. That wood is certainly an interesting grain, and the colour contrasts really well.
Love it.
