Couple days ago I saw the pine cone pen that William Young posted and got all inspired and fired up.(Thanks William, also appreciate your Utube session on BLO/CA.)Anyway I had a couple of fair size cones and made a pen,I didn't have a single tube kit,so had to make one using a comfort kit without the rubber. It's hard to sorta match up 2 different cones! Now I 'm trying to make a desk holder for it,I'm using a piece of about 3/4 " pine for the bottom,a smaller pine cone fastened to the base and now I need something to fit the pen nib into to hold the pen upright.Don't really want a store bought gold insert, but thought a small pine wood insert would go good, now I need some advice and trick to drilling a tapered hole in the insert that matches the nib taper.I'm thinking about grinding down a spade bit,but would like to know if you folks have an easier or better way. Thanks John
