I acquired carbide bit turning tools from China suppliers about 8 months ago. These tools are made by "TASP". The handles are around $5USD, the tools are sold separately ($5-20USD). They come with 1 carbide. TASP sells the carbides in 10packs for $25USD.

The only issue I have encountered: the tool will unscrew from the handle after some use. I do not anticipate a reason to ever unscrew the handle so I applied green locktite to lock the handles on the tool.

Difficult to fully explain but I will try in the attached photos. The bar steel/carbide holder is held into the handles with 2 alan worm screws; I never had a problem with those worm screws. The problem was in the holder.

The first photos attached are from the online store listing so you can search aliexpress/temu/banggood for the product. The next photos are my attempt to demonstrate the problem I encountered with all of them. Again the problem is easily solved with loctite. The back of the handles also come unscrewed under heavy use: loctite can be used to solve that as well.

TASP also makes standard HSS tools; I will review another time.

Thanks. I had looked at them once on Amazon, but held off giving them a try. I have my own HSS tools shaped to my personal preferences and keep them pristine sharp. I have a few carbide cutter tools that I use on occasion for rough cutting and would like to add some different shapes as you have. These would not be my primary tools but backups and occasional.

I would like to see your review of the HSS tools by TASP as well. I grew up around tools and sharpening cutting edges even as a kid. I got serious with sharpening shortly after I began turning pens and have found so far that even the best of carbide cutters (even Woodpeckers) are not quiet as sharp as I can easily get my HSS tools. But the carbide inserts do well to get square tubes round or get metallic spacers (brass/aluminum) in segments round and close to size.

you will probably not like the TASP HSS. You will hate the profiles and need to spend hours finding the perfect grind. But they are around $10USD; the largest 2" is around $20USD. The largest takes a beating turning bowl blanks into a general round shape.

I do not have the experience/skills to put a new profile/grind on hss tools.

I had a machine shop sharpen my last set a few times and they were never "youtube" level sharp where ribbons of wood stream off the blanks directly into my vaccum! I can say the same about my hand planes; the youtubers' hand planes are able to produce paper thin veneer quality shavings.

Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out!
THB433.95 68%OFF | TASP HSS Woodturning Gouge Wood Lathe Turning Tools Spindle Bowl Carpentry Chisel with Walnut Handle for Woodworking

The 2" is around $30USD.

Just add them all to your shopping cart.. log out and wait. They will lower the prices and spam your email. Once you can get them for $10/each just order them and make a video of the steps you take to get good profiles.

***additional *** if you have a dhl/fedex account; I will give you the tools.. shipping from me to you will cost you 300% more than ordering new ones from Aliexpress.

My offer stands for anyone reading this; if any of you want something; just let me know. Do not send me any money; just pay the shipping on your end. I am willing to print a label; pack it; and drop it off at DHL/UPS/Fedex. I am not looking to scam anyone or profit from any of you.

I would like someone mailing me different pen kits (In USPS standard envelopes with stamps).
