I have been asked to make some pens for a group that are cancer survivors. No problem. The problem is that I can only find breast cancer clips and laser cut outs. None in the group are breast cancer survivors and I don't think it would be appropriate to try and make them pens that don't fit their circumstances. Is there a clip out there(or a design even) for cancer survivors in general?

If there isn't, I think this is a largely untapped market with great potential. PSI sells the breast cancer kits & donates part of the sales to research. I would like to do the same, but with a higher %. I mean no offense to any one that has dealt with this(directly or indirectly) and am not looking to grossly profit from this as I will be donating some for a raffle/drawing/auction and getting no compensation from it.

My wife, mother-in-law, s-i-l, preacher, and at least a dozen others I know have had, or are now dealing with cancer of some sort and only one of them has breast cancer. As you can imagine, this is heavily impacting my life now and I would like to do something for them as well as raise some money and donate it to cancer research.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The Susan B. Komen foundation has done an astounding job marketing the breast cancer awareness symbols. They actually control the use of the symbol very stringently. Foundations representing the other forms of cancer simply do not have the marketing punch, so they are not as visible.

Here is a link that specifies different ribbon colors for different situations:

Awareness Ribbons Meanings and Colors

Many have multiple meanings, so read through the descriptions carefully. Maybe you can do decals with the appropriate ribbon color.

Constant over at Lazerlinez also has the full line of all the cancer awareness ribbons.

Lazerlinez: 3/8" Flag Kit, Pen Inlay Kits

Ignore what the link text says... just check the page. Here is his description for them:

"Cancer Awareness Ribbon Inlay Kits. Sierra Elegant Beauty 27/64 tube size.his kit consists out of three pieces, Curly Maple Barrel, Ribbon inlay and a small curly maple inlay for the ribbon. This is a very easy to assemble kit."

Last year Rich Kleinhenz along with kallenshan woods and exotic blanks had a cancer awareness pen kit. You can still find the kits on exotics blanks web site.

Exotic Blanks :: The Cancer Awareness Project

The general cancer color is purple. Which is what this kit is made with. But you can definitely find them from the vendors above as well. I have made awareness pens from exotics, laserlinz and wood n whimsee. All were very good.

Noticed the above link has lavender as the general cancer color. Others say purple.

Either way the thought behind it is the important thing.

Penkits in the UK has a generic gold or chrome awareness ribbon clip for slimlines
http://penkitsuk.com/node/48

They are sold in a pack of 5 and cost about $1.50 ea. The cost winds up about double with shipping though.

As best I can tell, this is the only source for this type of clip - if this is the sort of thing you are looking for, send me a pm & I'll be glad to mail you a couple to try out.

As a survivor, I have made dozens of pens for other survivors. My pal Susan back in Ca just finished all chemo and rad so I made her a Perfect fit in Pink Ivory. I would encourage you do something a bit different; I don't put a finish on them for example...the person isn't finished yet, so neither is the pen! Just something that mattered to me and felt appropriate.

Water slide decals work well.

I found this one at William Woodwrite. While its sold as a breast cancer clip, the gold one has clear stones in the ribbon. I can use it for any awareness pen I choose by using the appropriate blank color. The chrome clip has pink crystals in it.

Thank you all for all the suggestions and info and ideas. I have got some reading to do and hopefully will come up with something I like that I can afford.

Edgar, I'll get with you very soon. Thanks for the offer.
