I don't think I've read this tip,so since it worked so well,I thought I'd pass it on.

I used to tear off a heet of paper towel, fold it up then use it.pretty slow......I had some down-time wuth the lathe getting fixed,so I made up about 50 applicators that are now pre-done,ready to go.

I fold it in over about 8-9 times,so its about 3/4 inch or so wide, and nice and thick and long. Then tape it on the backside in 3 places. So now I just grap one,put on a coat, cut the used end off, then repeat til it's used up.It's so much nicer having it all pre-done.

To store them,I used one of those big long-reach plastic funnels, just attached with a zip-tie,so now it's like a quiver.Works slick.Seems faster.I can make those up here at home when I'm bored.

I do something similar... I fold a paper towel 5-6 times, then use duct tape on the over the fold to hold it together. Then cut off 1/2" to 3/4" strips to use as applicators. Also when doing just one finish, I use duct tape on my index finger and thumb to prevent sticking the fingers together.....

On the lighter side of this comment, be sure you get the correct rating for your duct tape... make sure it's rated for between 500 and 1000 RPM, lower rating may not hold together, higher rating is overkill. Camo duct tape is OK but you might not be able to find it when you need it.

Damn, they only have the really low speed tape at my local hardware store. The guy down there said you're not really supposed to move it at all! What an amateur!!

My solution is a halfway house between you guys - I put Scotch tape on my fingers!
