Thought it may be interesting to start a thread documenting my new shop build. Once the snow melts I'll post a photo of the site, then the pad, then the 8-1/2 day estimated building process. That will be the fast part.

Then I'll update on the stuff I do myself, including insulation, electrical, plumbing and internal walls.

Contractors are to pour footers, block stem walls and pad including rough in of plumbing for water, toilet and drains as well as tie-ins. Then they build the conventional framing, followed by metal, exterior doors and windows as well as the ceiling. This is the 8-1/2 day part.

Building will be 36x56 with a full bath, rec room, two 10x10 rooms with a closet in one half and wood shop, cnc, laser area in the other half. Oh, and storage in the attic.

We shall see how it goes…

Oh you are going to make alot of people jealous and put me on that list:) That sound like a house not a work shop. A rec room in there?

I want to see the rec room. if there is a pool table in there we will have issues. Will have to put you on my ignore list. ;)

No hot tub in the building. The rec room will be big enough for a pool table. Orientation of the room has two options, one more conducive to a pool table, the other to a built-in Bar. Will not make those decisions until I do actual layouts with tape. Originally thought pool table but leaning toward the bar, now. Would plan to build either one.

OK, so the snow is not melted yet but I did pull the cargo trailer off the gravel today so went ahead and snapped a photo of "the spot".

Bunk beds in one of the rooms will be acceptable for Chuck and I. Yuengling and Dickels on ice will also do fine. 🤣 We travel light and stay for no more than 5-6 weeks, but your weekly smoker ribs are not up for negotiation - get busy... Nightly toasts to Ernie and Randy! Your plans sound awesome - enjoy! ;);)

Mark, you always have the best ideas!

Mike, you also have the best ideas. Thanks for the photo. Great plan going forward.

Sounds like a plan, Gang. I'll go with twin beds do you two don't fight over who has to climb into the top bunk. Now that I am back in my home county I have also come across from wonderful moonshine. The straight up stuff drinks like water, but the peach cobbler version in the cooler drinks like kool-aid.

Just fixed 30 pounds of ribs and took to a Superbowl Party. They went over well, nothing left but clean bones.

Ms Jennifer is ready to see you all again!

Well, start date has been pushed back slightly. Original guess was the week of the 10th. Now it is the end of the week of the 17th. Not bad considering we had two weeks of very wet weather.

Been awhile since a public update. BUT, this is too good to not share. This to attention of @wolf creek knives who loves historic wood.

Interior stud walls are up and insulating all walls. Trying to get 21 hours of work done in 30 available work hours. Travel for my real job has been a big deal.

The cool part: Thursday my oldest daughter and I went deep into Kentucky and purchased 60 Tobacco Curing Hogshead barrel panels. These will make up the walls of the rec room area of the shop. They are basically vertical barrel staves used to cure tobacco. Made of oak and a half inch think they smell wonderful. These are some of last of these that exist as they are not available to the public but I found a place that recycles wood that had some.

Each panel makes a 24" diameter by 4' tall barrel, the wood is 1/2 inch thick. 25 square feet of wall surface for… $1.25 each. If I could have hauled more I would but these are +/- 48 pounds each and the cargo trailer wasn't happy with the 60 panels, 2 table size cable spools and 30 treated 6"x6"x5' cribbing ties for my daughter.

A wonderful day, didn't know what I was buying until after I loaded it but noted the wonderful aroma of the wood. These are no longer used in the USA for curing tobacco. So glad I got a piece of history.
