Just got through with my first boat and sporting show of the new year. I build and sell custom fishing rods and sell my own line of lures. This is the first attempt at selling pens outside of the retailers that i sell to.
I surprised myself by selling more pens than rods. I sold 21 rods and 29 pens. I had 65 pens on display and most of the time they would actually sell themselves. I sold mostly Barons and Sierras and just a couple of slimlines. I almost didn't bring any but decided at the last minute to give it a try. Boy, am I glad I did. I didn't have any signage or anything stating that thet were handmade but I think most people realized they were handcrafted.
I've got 4 other rod shows in the next 8 weeks and you can bet i'll have a nice set up and signage for my pens at those upcoming shows.
