Does anybody regularly make pens with solid black material?

What is your favorite black blank material?

Are they popular / sell well?

Thanks for any feedback.

One of the most classic looking pens to be found. When I did art shows I sold many solid black pens. Just like a black car be sure to have no ripples in the blank as black shows all faults. And yes all black material works well, I like Ebonite but all acrylics will work.

I have made several with Gabon ebony and the black acrylics from exotics, the ebony can be problematic with cracks but look great when it all comes together. The acrylics are easier to make and can be finished to a great shinny deep look finish. Several people I sell to only want black pens and really like the ebony best for the more expensive kits.

BE PREPARED!
A Simple little "black pen" may, in fact, the most difficult pen of all to make. I likely went through a couple gallons of resin and maybe 25 different colorants to get one that looks like wet paint.

Much like a classic black automobile, a gloss black shows every ripple and every flaw. BUT, when you "nail it", there is NOTHING more classic, more elegant and screams "I'm VERY EXPENSIVE" than a simple little black pen.

Respectfully submitted.

Acrylic Acetate: AA25 is my favorite after the black poly resin blanks I make. Black ebonite is nice but a bit pricey. Ebony is too prone to cracking. African blackwood is nice if it is really really black. Not a fan of bog oak.
Do a good turn daily!

I did 105 just before Christmas 2011, using recycled ink cartridges that were melted into garden edging. These had bits of color, metal both brass and steel, in them and finished with CA. They were for a cartridge refilling company and wanted to show their franchisees what could be made from recycled cartridges.
