I have routinely trashed the Benjamin's Best bowl gouges because they fluting was too shallow. Well that is no longer a problem with these tools. The fluting is quite nice now, and at the price these gouges are a a very good deal now.

I have 4 Ben's Best bowl gouges; a 5/8" and 3/8" standard, & a 5/8" and 3/8" fingernail. Have been using the standards and have been satisfied. Used the 5/8" fingernail tonight and love it!

The old version of their bowl gouges were much closer to a detail gouge and if ground correctly they are very good for that purpose, there are some cuts that benefit from a detail gouge. The new fluting is excellent and comes with a very nice fingernail grind, a bit different than the one I am used to, but a fantastic starting point.
