Busted two plastic blanks before I gave up and finished one in bloodwood. Too bad about the brown one. That would have been a nice pen.

I made a knucklehead move over the weekend and got one of my drill bits stuck in a piece of acrylic acetate. I think I pushed it too hard, things got too hot, and the drilled away material that was in the flute melted and then cooled and fused with the blank, wedging the drill bit in there. I...

Yeah. I only recently started working with plastics and they have been giving me fits. The blanks last night chipped out, I think, because my slew wrapped around the front and was cutting on the face of the blank. I should have learned the first time.

From the tool marks on the brown one, it sure doesn't look like they are from a skew. Are you using a skew as a scraper?

This marks were from the spindle gouge. I'd just switched over when it blew apart on me.

Sorry to see that Eric; It looks like that same catch on both busted tubes. Carbide tools work for me when doing acrylics.

I tried the Easy Wood Tools Negative Rake Carbide on acrylics today worked great. I did have a brown malle burl blank blow up like that today though.
