Hi name is Pete, have been woodworking and pen making for about ten years for fun and freinds. Recently got hooked on the idea of making from scratch. So after lots of research a few purchases and some great help and advice from Charlie - Newlondon88 I made my first casting. Attached pic is variagted gold leaf cast in clear PR.

Damn!

Hey .. that's right .. I TAUGHT HIM EVERYTHING HE KNOWS!!

That really looks cool.. What gives it all the different colors? It's a good
match to that kit, since there's so many metals going on..

Wow Peter! Talking about starting off at the top in casting! You did it! Watch out for Charlie!

You don't need the below information at all, especially with Charlie around, but I didn't want to leave you out of the greetings that go to all others as they join.

Below are links to two threads/articles that have lots of information on pen turning. The first one is a very basic overview of the many aspects of getting into turning pens.
http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42446

The second link has postings by different pen turners and what they wish they had known earlier:

Here is another link - a PDF on the acronyms used here. While confusing to new turners, it sure helps abbreviate a lot of repetitive typing.

Above Link Corrected!

Thats a stunning opener, Peter!

Welcome from sunny southern California. Can't wait to see how the red ones turn out. Beautiful work!

(Charlie, most TEACHERS I know are a bit more humble:rotfl:.)
