Chance Francisco Shue
1998 - 24 August 2011
We adopted Chance from the pound in February of last year at the age of 12. His former owners had surrendered him due to some large tumors. We couldn't let his last days be like that, so I took Charlie (our other black lab) and went to see if they were okay together. (When I pulled up with Charlie, a kid stuck his head out the door and asked if they needed to set up a medium or large cage for him. To which I replied, "I'm not dropping off, I'm picking up")
Chance came home with us that day and we loved him for the next year and 6 months of his life. When we took him to the vet originally, the vet said not to worry about the tumors until he started showing signs of having a problem (nothing we could do about them anyway at that point). This past week, we could see he was having some troubles and we took him in. Lymphoma. Started him on Steroids and the doc was getting us info on new Chemo drugs. Last night, I got him up to use the bathroom, he collapsed in the yard and I carried him in. He passed away a few minutes later surrounded by his family and his Pack.
We were Chances second chance, and he made the most of it in the time he had. We love him and miss him.
Do me a favor guys. Grab that furry critter that's in your lives and give them a hug and a kiss. Chances come around only so often, take them when they come.
