I just put another lathe into production in my shop and wanted to have a 3rd collet chuck just to make things easier. I checked with Amazon because just as often as not I can buy the same products and sometimes as much as 50% less and always with free shipping.

I found this collet set for $60 instead of the usual $90. I didn't really notice that delivery time was as long as 4 months. The collet is not an "urgent" need and is 33.3% less than buying the same collet directly from the vendor, so I let the order stand.

Today, I got a notice from Amazon that they frequently had problems with the vendor supplying the item for shipment in the time promised (in less than 4 months). All I can figure is that Amazon knows them:)

I went in to look this over as Amazon sells a couple of different ways, through the vendor and from the vendor to Amazon then out to the customer. I thought that maybe this would show something like a distributor of PSI products. I was shocked to see that it was going out through Amazon, which means Amazon must order it from PSI and then would ship it to you once they receive it. All I can say is wow. Makes you wonder if PSI was bought out by Steebar.

Hmmm. I've seen delivery times of up to 4 months on Amazon and thought... I'll shop elsewhere. Penman1, you have more patience than me. I could never wait that long for anything.

Now, I'm a newbie to all this penmaking and woodwork in general and have not delt with companies (PSI) so I have no experiences, good or bad. On monday just before midnight local time in AZ I placed an order with P*I. The next day, Tuesday, I got an email saying order has shipped with a delivery day of Monday .. if not sooner.
Can't complain about that.

And the other item I ordered from a vendor from this forum is also on it's way and should be here Saturday/Monday. Very good service.

Just my $0.02.

I waited for over two years to get an exacting pen vise. The vise was worth every second of the wait and I'd make the same decision again today.

I know you are a newbie, but if you plan to drill on the drill press, I recommend you go to classicnib.com and get a Huffman (PhD) pen vise. Classic just got 10. They'll be gone by tomorrow, and it really is the best pen vise made. AND if you don't get one now the list could get longer than two years!

Hmmmm

Amazon sometimes sells PSI stuff cheaper than PSI itself. I bought my mini lathe there for that reason. $15.00 cheaper than PSI and free shipping. Saved 15%.

In 4 - 6 months though, I'd probably forget I had ordered something.

Bought the same set via Amazon about 1 month ago.PSI site showed it as out of stock but Amazon had it to me in less than 7 days.It was also 30% cheaper than PSI.If I had to wait months to get it it would be like a Christmas present ,I'd be surprised at what I got.
