Dust collector alternative?

I have a Grizzly G8027 dust collector. Works great with a rating on 2.5 microns. I'm getting some fine dust that escapes outside the filter bag. Not a big deal but like to keep the shop clean. Any way to upgrade this to collect the fine dust? Thanks.

Powertec makes a 1 micron bag that fits the Grizzly. I read about changing to this one, but haven't done it myself. I read from others that it does not seem to restrict air flow much by increasing the filter rating.

Thanks for the link; HD is about four miles away. I'll measure the bag first and go from there. Air flow isn't a biggy as the hose isn't never more than 10-12 feet from the DC.

This is a real filter, not a bag. Those bag filters do not capture the smaller particulates that is really dangerous to be breathing in.

Yes, it is more expensive than the bags, but it is a lot less expensive than new lungs.

In my shop, I have a square box fan with a really good Merv13 filter (which is bigger than the fan) strapped to it. It's not a Hepa rating, but Merv13 gets the fine dust that I used to have covering everything.

You are correct. No they will not.

The problem with the dust collectors with the bag type filters is that they make you think that it is safe to work in the environment without a mask or respirator. That is dangerous, because it is the little stuff that gets through those bag type filters that gets deep in your lungs and causes serious health issues.

I agree with David - bag dust collectors give you a false sense of security - you think you are doing good, but in reality the worst dust you can have in your shop is sucked into the collector and simply propelled under pressure through the bag material into your shop air by the dust collector blower. It's bad on your lungs and it provides you with lots of dust on everything in the shop! No one died from accumulations of chips or shavings in their lungs - which the dust collector effectively blocks - it's the small particulates that matter. I also worry about how clean my shop is - I clean it regularly, but I am more concerned about how clean my lungs stay. Good filters are way cheaper than good doctors.

I have a respirator but it throws my glasses out of focus so then I deal with severe headaches. Can't win for losing.
I have a box fan and filter. That doesn't do anything about the fine dust that collects on the DC.

I also wound-up buying one of those large canister things that that sit on top of my dust collector. And, like all say, it was almost as much as the dust collector. I tried the smaller micron bags and I guess it helped but not as much as the canister thing. Mine has a large handle on top that allows you to keep the dust from "sticking" to the filter media. I also run a Jet airfilter. I don't know of anything that is any less expensive. Great question.
