So I'm wanting to try my hand at making some basic duck calls. What I mean by basic is I bought a couple double reeds from woodturningz. Over length of the reed is 3 1/2". 2 1/2" to the groove in the reed. I googled some info but a lot of it is people who make their own reeds. I'm not there yet. Lol Instructions for these are very minimal. So this is my perception of what needs to be done.
Cut my blank to desired length. Suggestions?
Drill entire blank with 5/8" hole.
Turn using expansion mandrel.
Was going to finish with Tung Oil Finish. ??
Insert reed up to groove (2 1/2") from end of reed.
It seems to me that this process just seems too easy. Does this sound right. I know they get a little more extensive when you make your own reeds, which I would like to learn down the road. We have ALOT of duck hunters around here and I would like to learn how to make a decent duck call that someone could actually use for hunting. Any and all help and advice will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Bobby
