Moonlit Ocean

Okay, I REALLY like this one! The blank is called "Moonlit Ocean", and it's appropriately named. I love the colors and patterns. It turned easily and polished nicely. I'm also pleased with the kit I paired it with. It's a Wall Street III in satin black and black chrome. The Wall Street III uses a 27/64" tube like the Wall Street II, but it's a larger diameter. It's probably a Sierra Vista from Berea. The blank and kit are from Woodcraft. I'm very, very happy with how it turned out!

But it squeaks. Never had a pen do that before.

Squeaks is good ... if you mean when you are polishing it and nearing the end of the polishing.

Jim, a tiny drop of sewing machine or 3in1 oil, will take the squeak away. But only a tiny drop and even with it being a tiny drop, you should wipe away any access oil. Otherwise, the excess oil could ruin the finish on the pen.

I just took it apart to see where to put the oil, and it doesn't squeak with the body off of it. So it must be the brass tube rubbing on the mechanism somewhere. I'll put some Renaissance Wax on it and see if that helps.

Neither. All I did was color the epoxy. Since the body is thicker on the Wall Street III, I took a chance that the blank was opaque enough. And it was.

Yes, I've turned several Gatsby Grandes over the years. I like them. But the only way for me to get them is mail order. I can pick up Wall Street III's at my local Woodcraft.

Good to know! I am near WC, unless there is a sale, they run about 20% more. I also like the smaller 3/8th tube. Another beautiful pen above. I have turned that blank before. Very nice work!

Yes, Woodcraft is pricey, but convenient.
