Tip of the Week:
Normally when parting an item off the lathe, we use our free hand to catch it......when it is a toothed gear, I choose to go a safer route. With this piece, I used a wooden Morse taper mandrel (in the tailstock) from another project as the "Catcher" when the gear was parted loose.
I assumed the gear would climb out of my leather gloved catching hand and end up broken on the floor.
The "Catcher" worked as planned.
