Scissortail Pens

Alright Folks, if you've got'em in let's start seeing those beautiful pens!
I'm breaking the rules and posting photos of both the pen I sent and the pen I received. I think you'll quickly understand why...
Jason (Aces-High) and I swapped.
Both pens arrived same day, and we had no communication prior. We are both from the same general area in Colorado, so maybe there's something in the air?
Hard to believe, huh?
Thanks to Jason for a beautiful pen.
Top pen:
Local aspen wood, recycled beer can, black paperboard
Bottom pen:
Local cotton wood, local willow, local walnut, copper shingle

I received mine from Mark (markjames) earlier this week. It's amazing! Thank you, Mark.
I also got two segmented blanks, and some royal poinciana and coconut palm, which are what the pen is made from (including coconut palm end grain for the finial cap). Mark and his family consider the Grand Cayman as a home to them, and that is where the woods are from.
Thanks!
Eric
P. S. Mark, yours is ready to be shipped as soon as the post office opens. I didn't intend on going up to the last minute, but that's how it goes sometimes...

Wow! Rebecca just receive her pen from Mr. Vic along with some goodies. We might need some help identifying the nuts(?) that were sent. Rebecca says shes seen them before but we do not know what they are.
The pen is beautiful and I hope Mr Vic can let us know what technique he used. It looks to be a very nicely done inlay.
We just shipped his pen and goodies this morning and hope he enjoys them as much as Rebecca likes hers!
Thanks!![]()

I am glad it wrote so smoothly when you received it. We did not plan to ship it with the ink installed but this was the first fountain pen Rebecca has made and she had it all assembled with the fountain tip and cartridge before we had a chance to tell her to wait. We talked about removing the cartridge before shipping it but thought it would be ok. The triton kits had been ordered before the PITH and were waiting on the right wood and then I read somewhere they were one of your favorites. The sinker cypress was a new wood for her so it took a couple of attempts for her to get everything just right.Okay, Here are some terrible pics of my PITH Exchange with Rebecca.
The pen is a Chrome Convertible Triton dressed in Sinker Cypress. My pictures don't do the pen justice. If you're like me you'll have to Google the wood but I'll save you the hassle. Sinker Cypress « Bruner Lumber It's Cypress that was floated down the river to the mill but sank before it got there. When recovered, what's left is the very dense heartwood.

Usually when I get or make a new fountain pen I'll remove the nib and feed to flush/clean of any manufacturing oils. I was surprised to find the cartridge installed so I just put pen to paper ->

I was pleasantly surprised as the flow was good and smooth in all directions. This is the stock kit nib and writes great.
In addition to the Beautiful Pen she sent along some Texas woods... Can wait to figure out what to make with them.

And take a look at the cool Texas Ebony Ornament...
You all better watch out come BASH time! This little lady will give us all a run for our money.

Thanks again for the exchange! She is continuing to learn and grow her skills. She has a few orders to fill and then hopes to have time to try bowl turning before the FIRST robotics season starts! Just maybe she will get to use the metal lathe or CNC machine.

We've had some absolutely beautiful pens shown so far in this PITH, but I have to say, not only was the pen that was made by Rebecca awesome , but the way that Vic portrayed it, just knocked it out of the park. I think that's made it my personal favorite anyway.
Thanks for the kind words, Mark!
Turning it was a breeze, as was finishing, but sanding it was a pain! It gummed up all of my sand paper (I sanded the corners prior to turning, and use an offset sanding jig for squaring it up).
