My clothes dryer heats up as soon as turn the timer and before I push start. I think the element is grounded and needs to be replaced. Could the timer be the issue instead or also? The timer works as far as I can tell.

I don't work with any device that puts out 220 volts - it's just too dangerous!

With all the modern electronics, it could be anything. A very tiny switch on our old dryer went, and we'd have had to replace the entire circuit board - so it's rarely something cheap and simple! :) I usually fix things, but i just bought a new dryer - I don't mess around with 220v

The dryer doesn't put out 220V ...
Just think of it as 2 110V lines ....

If you unplug it ...safe to work on . You shouldn't let 220V deter you from working on it...same hazards apply if it's 110V.

Is start a separate switch or do you push in or pull out the timer switch to start it? Rather than looking at the heating element, I think I'd be looking in the switching circuits .... if you have a separate start switch I'd almost bet it is the culpret. Even if it's combined with the timer there's a pretty good chance that's the problem.

Stopped by the shop for the part and after explaining the problem to the guy he just told me to check the element for broken wires or grounding before buying one.
It is nice to have a shop that is not just looking to sell something but will try to help a customer even if it doesn't result in a sale.

How does a heating element get grounded. Why is it not on all the time??? Maybe the start button is stuck in a close position.
