Well, another week living at work. Got 55+ hours last week with out Saturday, and missing a half day to boot. 12 hours a day so far and will most likely go through Saturday. Alas.......

I tell people I'd rather be busy than unemployed....seems truer in this tough economy.

Keep pluggin though, makes you really appreciate the time off (if you get to take it)

Been their, done that. For the first 28 of my 32 years working for a large corporation I didn't know what a 40 hour week was. I averaged between 25 and 35 percent overtime until the last 4 years on that job.

Yep, grateful for a great job. I don't recall ever having put in this many hours in one week, even when I was younger-let alone now! It's 9:15pm, and I will have over 65 hours when I leave in a bit. Got a full day yet tomorrow. Boss already started the fire smoldering for next week's work, too. At least I DO like what I do.

Wish I had gotten overtime for the extra house I worked... I ran a division of a start up company for 5 years from 1989 to 1994... my average work day was 14 hours...sometimes 6 day weeks... straight salary.

I left TWA, where I did get overtime and shift premium, but couldn't get off the night shifts due to seniority.... went to work for an airfreight forwarding company, working from 8 am till we finished whatever the hour... again straight salary.

It's much better now... I work when or if I feel like it.

:rolleyes: Reminds me of the good old days. When I started my job at the paper mill, it was just before deer hunting season. Than came Thanksgiving, Christmass, and New Years. At last after working 69 days in a row ( many up to 16 hours a day ) I got a day off. However, I did get overtime, shift premium, double time on Sundays and holidays plus paid holidays. Oh! to be young again !! Jim S

Yea, and that was probably when the law said you could not work 7 days in a calendar week....I worked around that many times. We conveniently had a work week that was Saturday thru Friday rather than Sunday thru Saturday like the calendar said.

But to be completely honest I think I put more hours in while I was in the Navy - especially when we were at sea and every day was a work day and every night was a work night...days off came when we were in port.

Thankfully I am hourly. I ended up with 73 hours for the week, almost 130 hours for the next pay check. Of course Uncle Sam will take his portion, but I'll gladly take what's left!

:rolleyes: The only thing I recall, is that you had to have 8 hours off once you punched out. Unless , of course, you were called back in. When I retired, we were working 12 hour days. 3 on 4 off 4 on 3 off. Changing shifts twice a week from days to nights. Sunday was just another day of the week. On the 4 day shift, working 48 hours, we got time and a half for the 8 hours. On the 3 day work week you only had 36 hours. You see why I took early retirement. Thank you for serving !!!! Jim S
