Me and the fam decided to take a river boat ride around downtown San Antonio, wow, I had no idea of how much history is just within that area.

The Alamo is worth seeing if you haven't been there. If you go on a weekday you can get a guided tour. Also some of the older missions around SA is worth seeing too. There is also an IMAX near the river walk also.

The also have a zoo there too.

I never get tired of the Alamo. I have probably been there 10 or 12 times. But the riverwalk in July??

If you really want to enjoy it, go in spring or fall. Still, it's worth at least one family vacation anytime of the year.

Oh I was great last night, it was around 8: 30 in the evening and the temperature was around 90° . The only the problem I had was that the boat was a little cramped, but we had a great driver, so it made the experience more enjoyable. We are getting ready to head out to sea world.

I was just browsing through the forum and ran across the thread about superstitious people which reminded me to ask if anyone has ever heard of this hotel that we are staying, The Sheraton Gunter, is haunted? Just spent the last ten minutes trying to figure out where this mysterious object came from that fell from the ceiling onto my wife's head as she was blow drying her hair.

That looks like a supersized cribbage board peg!

Seamus...

I would venture to guess it is a hinge pin that may have gone on a medicine cabinet in the room at one time. The top part is decorative and the bottom part slid into the hole.

As the building engineer, he would know.

I am headed that way (San Antonio) from Oklahoma for a little R&R with the family. I will be down there in a weeks time but I was a little concerned about all the rain I see on the news. Is there much flooding? The wife and kids also want to head over to the water park in New Braunfels, but I'm not sure thats feasible if they have flooding. I know Houston got hammered, right?

John

Might double check on the Alamo, I was there a couple months ago and there was nothing there- they're overhauling it...

Wow! that was harsh.

Let me clarify. I heard on the news that San Antonio (the place I am headed) was being pounded with rain and some flooding

Actually, John, we have had sporadic rain this afternoon, but nothing that could even come remotely close to flooding

What flooding? the news like to over tell things to make their stories sell. I wished we had some flooding to get us out of the stage 2 water conservation. We don't get those kind of stuff around here. Come on down and bring your pocket book since our local businesses like you to spend your money in their stores while you having lots of fun. WE just got little lucky this week to get somerainto wash the junk out of the air and clean it out. If you were here around end of June you would have wanted to stay indoors since we had abundant of heat wave.

So is there like a rule on how many times you must visit the alamo to be a Texan?
No, you just have to live here longer and get used to going to the Fiestas year after year and sit in the back yard making BBQ's and pay your taxes on time.:biggrin:
PS, oh, btw, wear Texas made Cavender boots too. And, additionally have to be able to eat fresh Jalapeno, straight with the seeds.

thats not true some parts of town have had a little flooding on roads and stuff.

Luke I suppose it depends on what you call flooding, lol. As little rain as we get up in wichita falls, even just a drop would be a flood!

Seamus, good talking to you the other night. Hope ya'll are having a good time. Yes there is a lot of history in and around S.A. Are you going to try to go tubing? Have fun if you do. Take care.

To answer John's question, yes there has been some rain, well needed and some flooding but it clears very quickly. I did almost a complete circle around S.A. yesterday and there are no issues. Come on down.

true but i was talking about parts of roads that had to be pumped out becouse they were several feet deap.

I appreciate all the updates on the weather. It will help our planning a lot. We will definitely be down for a few days. We plan to stay right downtown at the Hyatt Regency Riverwalk a block from the Alamo.

Heck, I'm originally from Iowa and I've been to the Alamo at least 7 times. This will be the first for my kids though.

Any thoughts about other things to see within walking distance of the Alamo? We will spend some time walking the riverwalk and of course market square. I would rather park the car and walk if possible especially if the weather is nice.

That actually looks like one piece of a hair pin (my wife has several like that). Must mean the spirit of the room thinks your wife needs to do something different with her hair. LOL!

For the record, the only visit to the Alamo that ever resulted in one becoming a Texan happened during that battle.

I am sorry, but these days there are only two ways to become a Texan. Be born one, or to Texas parents temporarily living out of state. However, I AM considering an exception for my SIL from Tennessee. Its not his fault his parents didn't know where to live. But he got here as quick as he could.

you will probably be best to park in the hotels garage and walk or take the trolley's. You can also rent Segways (spelling?) by the hour or the day if you wish! Be sure to take a riverboat ride as well and go up in the tower of the americas!

You must not be from here, son. You haven't seen a real flooding it happened when you were very young ask your parents about Almos dam spilling over few years back that's was flooding. Not the few feet water on the road, plus In san Antonio, our drivers don't know what to do when it rains that's why they call it flooding.
