Nut Bowl

When I was a kid, every Christmas my Mom would get out this bowl she had and fill it with mixed nuts (in their shells). I don't remember whom she got the bowl from, but someone in the family must have made. I remember it was made out of Cherry. Anyway, my son gave me a nice chunk of Black Walnut for Christmas. I was looking at it the other day and thought of that old bowl. I decided to try to make one. This be it. I also make a little mallet to go with it to crack the nuts with. I put Oak inserts on the ends of the mallet and on the pedestal in the bowl because the BW is pretty soft to be cracking nuts with.

That came out very nice. I can see pieces of nut shells all over the house when you bring that out this Christmas.

Yea, I remember my parents having one of those and a divided try to hold nuts. Another idea for future work in the shop.
