Seems like every time I'm almost done with a pen, something breaks. This was my second kitless pen and decided to try wood with inserts this time. Everything was going great until I was finishing the cap and broke a chunk out. Regardless, I'm happy with how the pen came out.

That is a nice looking pen.
Stuff is gonna happen, it is how we learn.
Nevertheless, it is frustrating for sure!

Graffiti taped on a file cabinet: Compared to me, Murphy was an optimist!
Had demonstrators at our former woodturning club get down to the last application of the tool. Bang. Chips or explodes! Glad that never happened to me. 🤥

I feel your pain! Last week I had a big chunk blow out on one of the laser segmented pens I've been working on when I was "just taking one more pass" on the lath. It really stinks to be so close before something horrific happens. I did learn something though and have since changed the design a bit to try to prevent it next time. - Dave
