I have been making some little ornament bird houses lately and the other day I had this idea. I got up this AM and gave it a try. This is my prototype. If nothing else, it is another way to play with pine cones. Not claiming it is original, seems like I've seen something like it before. My wife wasn't real excited about it. Just curious what others think.

I like it. It makes me think the tiny little "Turnerbird" made his home from a pine cone. I think they would be a big hit at craft shows, or as gifts. I think a knotty piece of red cedar would look even better! Cracks, voids etc.

I think it's really great , I have to agree about the bottom though . I've seen little tiny pinecones somewhere I think that would look better on the bottom . Great job on this one .

Thanks for your input. Another thought I had, but I can't do, don't have the setup, but would it be possible to cast a whole cone? Then it could be cut in three pieces, the center piece turned to a birdhouse, that the three pieces re attaches together.
