it floats! my three girls took it out on the lake for several hours and had a ball. the hull is effecient enough that a 2 finger push would send it a hundred feet before they had to paddle. very little wake. they jumped the waves, surfed it, did figure 8's and in general, had a ball. i made the paddle in the pictures from western red cedar, brazilian cherry and black cherry. it will support over 350 pounds and weighs 35 ounces. i like light.....enjoy the pics and thanks for all the positive comments. after all these years working wood, i can truly say i am a success.....in my mind anyway. thanks to everyone..bear

ps...for nancy in florida, my youngest (22) took it out once in your honor. she remembered your kind offer to test it....the original designer lives in florida and paddles all over the place......fitting i think......

Beautiful Craftsmanship. Its so pretty I would have never put it in water and rather just sit and look at it. Ive pulled up your finished pictures to show many I know. All were amazed!

Bear,

I'm so excited for your success. It's got to be gratifying to know you build something so beautiful that does so well on the water.

Tell your daughter thanks for the ride in my honor. That was so sweet.

It looks great on the water. Did you get a chance to take it out yourself or did your daughters do all the testing?

You better start thinking about a new project, otherwise, you're going to get bored with nothing to work on.

Congratulations on a great first launch. The pictures look like the girls had a good time.

Nancy

How cool! Isn't it exciting to see such a beautiful work of yours take off "on it's own." Looks like it is quite a smooth ride as well. You've gotta be proud!

i won't sit in the boat. i exceed it's weight limit and have no desire to see the bottom of the lake. it won't sink but it will fill with water......next project is a 21' show kayak that i designed from the ground up. i just have to build the thirty foot shed to build it in first. sounds like fun to me.......bear

That canoe is just incredible. I bet your daughters were nervous as hell about scratching or sinking that thing. I would have been.
