Laser Engraving Help...

So I'm working on trophy bats, but can't get the decals to work out right. I think they are too large which is causing them to peel, plus the paper I'm working with is white and while there are instructions to make it clear, it doesn't seem to want to do what I want it to.

Thus, I'm back to the original plan of having the bats laser engraved. So I'm asking, is it possible to create text like what is pictured in the sample, with the shaddowing?
