With a 12" cheap chainsaw and a 24" Husqvarnachainsaw, we turned 2 trees into lumber yesterday.

The larger one became 8/4 and the smaller became 5/4. We were having good times until the wind died down and it was just 108. Overall it was fun though. I haven't done milling in probably 10 years, so it was kind of nice to do it again.

Good to see someone else making lumber instead of burning great wood! What kinds of trees did you have for milling? What kind of milling attachment were you using?

Got me a Alaskan 777 for milling the bigger stuff with a Stihl 064 wearing a 36" bar and ripping chain.

Your hardly the only guy working slabs. I and a few others on the site even specialize in salvaged woods and select cutting trees in enviromentaly sensative or dificult to reach areas.......the scrap heats me home 7 months of the year.

Glad you guys got some material for your efforts! Nice job, honestly searching out and cutting the wonderful woods used in turning of all kinds is my favorite part of the process! Never can tell what kind of treasures you will find. Here is one my son and I got last year. The insurt is the cross grain shot of what it yeilded.

It wasn't my mill. It was an Alaskan Mk something. We only had a 24" bar and a standard 3/8" chain. Not ideal, but it did get the job done.

This was some elm from a lot that got cleared as part of a landscaping job. One of those know a guy who knows a guy and the wood ends up on an empty lot next to your house kind of deals.
