So, 2 out of my 3 kids were in the recent youth pen contest. Rebecca :bananen_smilies008:, my oldest, likes to turn whenever she can. She is the main reason I picked up a lathe in the first place. Josh , my youngest, did well in the contest and was really thrilled with the prizes. He now WANTS to make HIS pens (the kits he won). Cole :bananen_smilies026:, the middle child, did not participate in the contest. However, he has seen the loot that both his older and younger sibs collected from the contest. Now he has been asking to turn.
On a busy week I don't get any time on the lathe. On a "good" week I might get 3 or 4 hours of turning time spread out over a couple of days.
I had about an hour tonight and was thinking about a Masur Birch blank that I have ready to turn. However, I spent some great time with the boys  &:bananen_smilies026:helping them select pen blanks and kits they wanted to turn. They helped cut drill and glue the blanks.
Next time I have some turning time the boys will want to turn their pens.
Becca :bananen_smilies008:also has a project or 3 lined up and ready.
I love having the opportunity to do this with my kids :bananen_smilies026::RockOn::bananen_smilies008:. Some of my fondest memories are building furniture with my Dad  when I was their age. But at this rate I might not get to "my" stuff for a couple of weeks . . . or longer!
I guess that is a good problem to have.
Thanks to all,
Dave
