Hello! I have been a hobbyist woodworker since about 2002 and took up pen turning in the fall of 2010. I have read books by Dick Sing, Barry Gross and Kip Chistensen and Rex Burningham. Also have viewed videos on DVD and online and have discovered the resources in the library here. I can tell from looking at photos here that I still have much to learn. Looking forward to the lessons and hope to share also. I have begun posting photos of my pens in a Pens Album on my Facebook page. Thanks in advance for your suggestions (camera work needs improvement also).

Welcome Glen, it's a fun hobby, it can put a few dollars in your pocket, and right now we have some of the best pen makers in the country, actually the world, taking this hobby to an entirely new level, just hang on it's a wild ride!!

Welcome, Glen. I'm in southern mid-Michigan - and also a new contributor here. Saw your Facebook photos - looks like good work. Really like this place. Have picked up several wonderful tips/techniques in a short time. Hope you do, too. (btw - what branch? I'm ex-Corps of Engineers)

Thanks for all your welcomes.

Welcome to the wonderful world of penturning. Have you considered posting your pictures here so more of us can see them?
Do a good turn daily!
Don

My Facebook Pens Album is available for viewing by anyone, just follow the link. I will be posting some pens here in the future.

Basic branch is Infantry but my career was Army Reserve and spent most of that time in CSS units. I also qualified in Ordnance (now part of Logistics). Do you also post on Wood Magazine fourms?

Glen - Well, I AM an Ohio State grad, so the Buckeyes are my team (tattoos and other indiscretions aside). Growing up in Cleveland, we went through many, many years of less than stellar sports teams (except for the '64 Browns). So I kind of feel "entitled".

Welcome Glen from North Alabama. Looks like you and I had similar careers in the Army but mine was all active duty. Took BT at Ft Knox in 1974 and traveled down to Ft Polk for AIT. Crossed over to Ordnance in 1977 as a Missile repairer and 28 years later said goodby and now farm. You are going to like this site, there are some smart cookies on here that for sure think out of the box.
