Alright i know this is not a perfect pen but I am proud that i was able to make it none the less. I have talked to brooks803 but never have been shown what to do. So i welcome any tips and constructive criticism. Oh yea now I am hooked. Already planning on my next pen probably tomorrow night. I hope you like this newbie's pen.

Thanks for looking
chris

Save it, it will be good to look back on it after you have been turning pens for a while.
For a first pen it looks pretty good. Work on the tolerances at the center band being more smoothly transitional.

Great looking first pen, Chris. As Cindy said, hang onto that one. You will be able to go back to it in no time and make all kinds of comments about how it could have been better here or finer there, more shine here and a better kit to boot. for your first pen, you did a real good job. I wish I had held onto my first, but I was so proud of it that I gave it away to the first person that gave me a good complement on it. Keep up the good work and practice, practice, practice.
Charles

PS. Too late to turn back now, you are officially hooked!

i don't think there is anyone on this forum that doesn't have one exactly like that. we all have to start somewhere. just look through the members albums and you will see where this hobby will take you. just keep making pens and asking questions.

looks great Chris! Much better than how my first one came out (still have it too). Did you try the CA finish? Be sure to bring it and future ones to the next meeting. I'll be sending out that box of goodies for you to play with tomorrow. Take care and congrats!

Thanks for the comments. I am really excited to go further with these pens. My wife wants me to let her turn one now. She has already picked out her pen blank so keep giving feed back cause I need to learn as much as I can

That is a great move allowing her to turn her own pen. GEt her addicted also and then any tool or gadget you 'need' will be much easier to get bought. Naturally now, you know this is going to automatically call for a second lathe, don't you?

Great start ! As others have said, put that one in a safe place and save it. i started a little less than a year ago. I actually put my first pen in a frame and hung it on my wall.
