Just picked up the stock to make that batch of sander mills today. I have about 2" of "waste" where the chuck holds it, but the rest will become the mill sitting on top of that pile of steel! This may take a while! [:p]

After trying to figure out how to square up the bigger tube pens (Atlas) that I am trying to make I put a piece of corian on a 7mm tube and turned it down so it would fit inside the Atlas tube and then used the 7mm barrel trimmer. It was kind of crude but it got me close.

The sleeve method is what I do for all my kits. Heck it sems like every pen I make has a non-7mm tube and most kits have two tube sizes itself! I like the wood sleeves myself, they are easier to make. [:D]

Very simple... You take a 7mm slimline tube and make a pen blank. Now you turn this down perfectly sized to match the ID of any pen kit tube you desire. I like to use diffrent woods so I can tell them apart easily, but I also keep them in a box with a lable to tell me what kit they go to. If you make these on a mandrel, you can space the blank between some slimline tubes and a spare 7mm tube. Now slide the pen kit tube over the spare tube and as you get close, you can test fit the new sleeve until it's a perfect fit.

I recommend using PR or something that does not swell/contract with heat and moisture. I used wood until I found out sometimes I couldn't get the sleeve in the tube (swelled from humidity) or it was loose in the tube (dried and shrank). Now I use PR for my sleeves.

Lee,

My mill arrived today!! [:D][8D] I can hardly wait to give it a try!!

You could do that, in fact how cool would it be to make a "lable blank" that said what the mill goes to!! [:D] Hmmmmmm... I may need to talk to my buddy Steve! I have not had problems with my wood ones fitting myself, but that may just be luck!

Scott, last night I took a block of 1" square corain with a tube that was glued in it, cut it to 1" long and turned it to the same size of the pen mill head. Now I use that and the transfer punch to mark my hole. It helps to know that the paper is lined up with the hole.

Oh... and I just emptied my trash can that I wipe the shavings into at my metal lathe and had to laugh a bit... I made the largest freaking brillo pad around!! [:D] (This is all from the pen mills too!)
