I spent a good 10 hrs or more cleaning. My feet are tired, the spiders were taking over! My shop is pretty well organized as far as layout and storage, but actual placement of things was really getting out of hand. I need more places to group things as I constantly grow and expand, so I emptied most of my drawers and went to town. I found several containers and started containerizing things so they can't just roll around. I was keeping all my drill bits in a bin, in original bit containers, other drawers and basically all over the place. Same thing with stuff like wrenches, sockets and whatever else, and most of the time the tool comes out of the pouch or case and never gets back in, so I have all these partially filled pouches and containers laying around. Now everything is together. I had no idea how many drill bits, allen keys, screw drivers, wrenches, screw driver bits and other little things I had. I found all sorts of files and other tools I didn't remember I owned. Few weeks ago I needed a gear puller to remove a steering wheel..well I don't have one of those..what do you know, I actually do! Three trash bags of dirt, dust, packages and a big bonfire later and I'm ready to get back to having fun.

Can't show you place and every drawer in the shop..but you get the idea.

Too organized for me! Nice looking shop!

BTW .. can't tell for sure, but it looks like that radial arm saw was recalled..
( I had one) it had to do with the blade guard. If you contact Emerson Tool
they'll send you a kit to retrofit for the saw. Just give them the serial number.

Just thought I'd put that out there in case someone needs their saw upgraded..

This is one of those jobs that most of us "postpone" to one day, in the year of 2000&never...!
Really nice shop and machinery, we all know that work shops are more often unclean than clean but, every so often one just needs to stop and gets the hands dirty with the job. From sawdust to off cuts, from savings to useless stuff, there will be a large bin of rubbish to dump then, the enjoyable task of rearranging and findings things though lost and give them a new home, making the available space certainly to open and realize how much room actually there is, if everything is organized properly...!
Now, I know that not everyone has the time and or the energy to go through this process more than once every 5 years or so and, there are many others that irregardless how or where the things go, its just never big enough! (I know one..., me!:frown:), actually I'm going through that just at this moment, moving things around just to game the maximum possible storage volume area in the shed but, and after 2 days eating dust, I come to the conclusion that I may have increase the storage capacity up to 10% if I'm lucky, and that is it, no where to go from here, so I need to built some more roof area around the shed, right to the neighbors fence...! is only 4 feet wide but is 10 meters long...!yeah:rolleyes:

Cheers
George

Well, I figure if you left Eaton Rapids tomorrow around 0800 (or earlier) you could get to my place in about a month.

A month you say ... well, yea because you have to stop at everyone else's place on the way to GA. BTW, while you are at Gary's place in TN be sure to snag a good bit of his burl ... he won't mind and I love the burl stuff.

Nice organized shop you have there. Now get busy and mess it up again!

I did build all my own cabinets. I built the entire shop. It is 32x40, but I cut off 5 foot on one side, basically just built the wall back 5 foot so that I have a covered porch down one side. My chop saw/radial arm cabinet cutting station is 18' long. Both saws operate on the same plane. The stand from the radial arm saw I recycled with a piece of 3/4 melamine to be the table for my jet mini. Don't know if the radial arm saw is re-called, It works fine but I don't use it very often. Inbetween the two saws is a home-made dump bucket where the useless scrap stuff goes. It's just a cart with wheels and two sticks pointing up, then a wood bucket and a piece of threaded gas pipe connects across the top as a pivot point so the bucket can be easily dumped out into the bucket of my tractor to go to the fire pit. I do save most of my wood as much as possible. There's deep drawers full of organised wood scraps, mostly organized by color. If ya'll want help cleaning your shop, go make some babies!

Where did you squeeze in the metal lathe? I don't see it anywhere.

I enjoy starting a new project ( even just a pen ) in a clean shop and I guess seeing a clean shop also inspires me to do something creative. But I often walk in, see the mess and then walk out in disgust:redface:

I see the new lathe in the first picture. You see it near the back window, but it's a side view. That thing takes up quite a bit of space. I need the shop clean to start a new big project too. My biggest motivation tough was the cold weather. My propane tank is almost empty and I have to wait till tuesday for the truck to come out and fill it. It's too cold to work in there now, it's only 50 in the shop, and cleaning requires constant moving around taking the mind off the cold. If I fire up the heater and burn the last drops of gas, then I have to pay extra for them to bleed the lines.

Ooops  I see it now.

My little shop/ hobbit hole is only a small single car garage and it shares floor space with bikes and other gardening junk. Never really gets too cold not to work though. What happened to 'Global Warming' ?? I say we let it warm up a bit before we try and stop it:biggrin: Nothing but rain here.........constantly:mad:

Nice shop. Wish i had the saws and the band saw you have. I have just a little one. I built a new shop and still trying to get it organized. Its been raining here for 4 days now ( light rain and cold). Going to try and get out there today though.
