I don't know if there's enough margin in the current fair prices offered, but I would love to see and take advantage of a sale/discount on the Jr Antony, George, and Aaron lines.

Just throwing it out there. For the "right discount" I would buy at least 10.
If it does requires more, like 20 or 30 plus, I would host a very small, limited group buy - but each buyer would have to commit to at least 5.

We introduced these models at a reasonable price, with a discount schedule. I am not allowed to give a link (advertising rules). Then, we discounted some of them, at prices corresponding to 50 unit pricing. (again, no links allowed). So, they show only one price with a discount percentage (15 ish).

As the "head of marketing", advise me!! What should we do? Once a "sale price" is offered for more than a few days, it is no longer a sale??

One of our competitors had prices that were 30% higher than ours, until we offered the same pen. Should we offer it at the inflated prices, so we can then discount??

I am not complaining, (we sold out of several styles) I am seriously looking for marketing guidance.

Thanks for any input.
Ed

Group Buy from whom?

Who are you thinking of approaching with a group buy? Dayacom does not offer any of the mentioned kits in retail quantities.

Thanks Ed. I can't speak for others, but I (this is what I do, not what you should do or anyone else) would consult several vendor sites and attempt to arrive at a baseline price for the different volume intervals. From those baselines, I would look for a discount/sale.
But as we all know, sales and discounts can all be an illusion. Everyone has to win. I guess for a consumer looking for a deal, identifying a supplier looking to immediate increase his/her liquidity, reduce carrying costs, make room for new inventory, expand their customer base for a new product by lowering the barrier, etc might be conditions that would lead to a true sales .

Ed, I don't thought think I or anyone else, is going to teach you anything about marketing. You have an excellent formula IMO anyway. :-)

I am not going to approach anyone. I was just looking for 10 kits cheap (to be honest), but understand that it may take more to make it something "worthwhile" for the supplier. I give away/donate 85% of my pens. Pen making is therapy for me...like playing the guitar. :-).

Nor is this a group buy per se. I have enough contacts/friends that will take the kits that I don't use.

Thank-you Tony, but the day I begin to think I am too smart to learn is also the day I become too stupid to improve---I hope that never happens!!!

I recently had a five minute phone call. I spent several hours reviewing the many ways I could have handled it better. Got an order from the customer, so obviously he was not "p.o.'ed" too badly, but I want every conversation to be enjoyable for the caller---I hope I improve with each one.

The IAP is a collection of SOME of the customers of ExoticBlanks. Any input I can get from this group will give me guidance to make ExoticBlanks a better resource and, we hope, a preferred source!!

I value EVERY comment made on IAP (and everywhere else).

I am glad you responded Ed. I didn't know you already had them on-sale. Will order a half-dozen or so, and give the Virage a try, and try the the MV gel refills. Thanks!

Thank YOU for taking the time to talk with me!!

There are many hobby penmakers. Every time I get a chance to learn more about YOUR wants and needs, it guides Exotics to be more relevant to YOU. We want to serve ALL penmakers who use "kit" pens.

(I don't know enough about kitless to be much help!!)

THANKS again, Tony!!!

Ed

It was a great excuse to take a break from finishing up my taxes (teasing) LOL.
Say Hi to Dawn and thanks for supporting the IAP so well.

You are not interested in this it seems from your previous postings here. What we have here is that you created is a wag the dog case. Perhaps unintentionally perhaps not but done none the less.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I understand the idiom, but I am not sure what you mean; but I am ok with that and respect your thoughts. I found them at a price that was right for me. If I find them at an even lower price than what I buying them for today, I will may buy more. I give them away or use them as gifts, so I am trying keep the price point "low" but gain some more in terms of what I consider quality.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

Peace.

You must have a point edstreet. What is it?

Pick on Tony Friday.

I've heard of aggressive marketing tactics but most aggressive customer tactics result in a fine or jail time. Till now.
I wouldn't say Tony is one step short of blatant customer coercion, ok, I guess I would, but a customer has to thump the (empty) shopping basket occasionally to encourage the capitalistic spirit rampant in most merchants.
I'm not sure if that is it or if it's getting too close to Christmas to be able make all the gifts for a really large family or whether Tony, like myself, has sickened of turning slim lines.
Frankly, I'm with Tony on this one. Bring on the bargains. Strew the capitalists asunder to be vanquished all the more easily. Here! Here, take the cash!
