As expensive as this mandrel is, I thought I better protect it. Mahogany box with 1/2 inch finger joints. I probably won't put a finish on it. It's just going to be kicking around in my workshop.

Well done, Ken. I probably should consider doing something like this with many of my more delicate tools other than just throw them in the workbench or in a drawer. Thanks for sharing.

Darn nice box. I'd put a finish on it anyway, it may get some rough handling, but it's too nice not to be nice to it! ;). I have been making new wood handles for some of my most commonly used shop tools. I use recycled (Habitat for Humanity purchases) and turn off the clear plastic (cellulose acetate butyrate), and make a new handle. I got this idea from a demo I saw in Chicago by Dick Sing. He has his own set of custom tools handled for EVERYTHING. Why? He said it was 'his tools' he wanted them to fit his hand!

I admire your box skills!
