I live in the Seattle area, and noticed that the Wood Working show is going to be held at the Puyallup fairgrounds the last weekend of April. I'm thinking about going to that and taking a look at what the various manufacturers have to offer.

My question: Are these places a good place to get good deals on wood working equipment? I'm specifically looking at purchasing a Laguna LT18 bandsaw. Any tips/suggestions?

I'm not familiar with Laguna's policy, but many vendor/manufacturers will make deals so they do not have to ship equipment back. Make the deal before the last day of the show but pickups usually occur on the last day. Can't hurt to ask.

Know your prices and shipping rates/policies before you go. In the last few years the major deals have not been at the WW shows. You can still pick up some deals, you just have to be a careful shopper. Haggle for the big stuff... all they can say is no.

I usually pick up a few things there, but Joe was dead on. Know your prices before you go. I haven't really gotten burnt, but with Amazon throwing free shipping at us quite often, I could have saved a few bucks.

I bought a Jet 16" bandsaw with fence, locking casters, and "standing pad" for less than the "normal" cost of a 14" bandsaw with no add-ons. From Rockler.

Yes, woodworking shows are a great place to shop IF YOU KNOW YOUR PRICES BEFORE YOU GO.

Hey, Neighbor!

If you're heading down to Puyallup, you may want to check out the Sumner Woodworking Store. I don't know if they have Laguna, but they seem to have a great selection of tools in general at what appears to be pretty good prices.

I'm not affiliated with the store in any way. I've just been there (once) and it seemed like a pretty good place.
