I am looking at getting a couple wood river planes. I was wondering if folks here might have used them and have some first hand opinions, especially about initial tuning and how well the blade holds an edge.
I have read the fine woodworking review of planes
I know they are made in China (So was my JET lathe)
I know they are copies of a Stanley Bailey design (Patent expired a while ago) as are the Lie-Nelson. I don't want to rehab an old plane yet.
So I know what has been written about them. I know I cannot afford nor can I Justify a Lie-Nelson. Can't Justify one of THESE either, but they sure make Lie-Nelson look like low priced junk.
I just want to know how the wood river feel from people who use them.
