I have a board that I bought and the shop I bought it from didn't know what it was. I'm wondering if any of you can help. This is a medium colored wood with reddish-orange highlights. It is, also, very heavy. My wife's first comment was "mahogany" until she picked it up and said it was too heavy. Coloring is 'almost' like padauk ( little lighter) but the grain, etc. doesn't even come close to padauk. Any ideas would be appreciated.

From your picture I can't be sure, but think Carl may be right... I have a chunk of Braz Cherry that was 3 x 12 x 12 that I cut into peppermill blanks... your board looks a little like the heartwood of what I have...

Need more detail to be sure; to ID wood by photos, it helps to have all three of face grain, edge and end grain. Closeups at high resolution.
Could be jatoba as stated, or a plain bubinga, caribbean rosewood, or lots of other types.
