First I will admit that I'm illiterate when it comes to woods in other countries. I found this wood laying in a pile outside of a company that I do equipment repair for. When I inquired about it I was told it is used as bracing to keep cargo from shifting in containers originating in Taiwan. Any idea what kind if wood it is? It has a odd odor to it, not unpleasant, just odd. Very straight grain. I took a picture of it rough and a couple pictures of it turned round , sanded to 150, and wiped clean with DNA against different color backgrounds. Thanks.

Hi,

That looks like "Meranti" to me, I'm most familiar with that wood, even though it doesn't grow in Australia. Is widely used in the furniture and house building items, such as all the internal wood items in many houses, doors, windows, frames, skistings, trimmings, etc, etc...!

I've also seen it in many pallets that are imported into the country from Asia...!

Light wood but quite durable...!

Cheers
George

George, I think you are correct. Looking at the pictures on The Wood Database I believe it is in fact Dark Red Meranti. Thank you very much for you response!
