Hey IAP,
I just need your expertise. I went swimming in the Delaware river with my 3 cousins a few week back and while swimming we found the 2 inch in diameter branch float down river. We grabbed it and it had many markings on it so it has been floating for a while..

Anyway, as I turned it yesterday I noticed this beautiful grain popping through almost like a live oak or leopard type grain along with some spalting.. Any ideas what kind of wood this is? I am in North East PA if it help to id it.

Thanks in Advance
Brian

It looks like spalted beech. I just cut some up and sent it too a customer and had that same spalting.
I have a ton of it that nobody wants.

Beech

American Beech is very common in Wayne County PA, as is Norway Maple and Hickory.... But....the Deleware River begins in the Catskill region of NY State and your branch could have come from there....Sugar Maple is fairly common and both Red and White Oak are abundant in the Catskills.
