My opinion on wipe-on poly is that it is a RIP OFF. Just buy polyurethane and thin it, much cheaper in the long run.
Wipe-on will build a decent finish given several years worth of work, lol. I personally don't like the cold feel and amber color it leaves. Technically you have to scuff sand it between coats so this is also a pain in the rumpus b/c you are sanding it with 220-400 grit paper, which is much more coarse than what you likely sanded the original wood surface too. Too much risk, in this rookie opinion, of scuffing up the wood.
I'd stick to CA or lacquer.
