Got a call from "Kevin" last night informing me that I was generating a ton of error reports......I have never clicked on "send report"! He showed me a log, then got his supervisor on the line, "Teresa" wanted me to do some other stuff. None of this made me at all comfortable, but when she wanted me to log on to a site I have never herd of I put an end to it! Tracy and I have been scammed before and we are very gun shy!!!!!! I will be checking the information she gave me and possibly calling them back if all checks out.....they were both good at there jobs and well mannered.

But what bugs me the most is "Kevin" and "Teresa" were obviously in India! Without a doubt! I find it offensive to both myself AND the poor folks pretending that I don't notice there accent. Windows, I may not be computer savvy but I am NOT dumber that dirt! How about some respect for me AND your subcontractors!?!?

I got a call like that about 4 months ago....
They said my machine was doing something wrong
So I said in the most evil voice I could muster, "Muahhh ahhh ahhhh, then my master plan is working, I will take over the world... (more evil laugh) then I hung up

I got a call from "Microsoft" as well today - but I think it was because we bought a new Dell laptop a few months ago...she was trying to sell me additional software.

The internet's calling - there's a problem with our machine...about as likely as my car calling to tell me the brakes need replacing.

Nope, never happens.

ALWAYS a scam.

If you think it's legit, then ask for a phone number, realize that they either won't give it to you, or that it's different from the real Microsoft number, and tell them to stop calling!

Microsoft wouldn't do a cold call like that. Also if Windows came with the system you purchased they wouldn't even try to support you without a credit card. That has scam written all across it. India is common for phone tech support. Microsoft and most national computer makers have call centers in India, San Salvador, and the Philippines. When I last called TXU electric to report a power outage the girl who answered was in the Philippines.

If you let them on your machine, you've already been hacked.
And, if that's the case, you must take your computer to a knowledgeable professional and let them inspect it for you.

The scamers are getting brazin lately, the wife got a call the other day, and they needed her information to send her the free diabetes meter, and also needed a CC number to cover shipping....

She didn't sign up with any one to receive a meter, or talk to anyone.

When she started quizing them on the company and where they were etc. they hung up.

In my job I work with a lot of Microsoft employees and my brother works for Microsoft.

Unless you are a corporation with a significant amount of workers Microsoft will NEVER call you directly. The will NEVER call directly when there is a support issue. As a matter of fact if you call them with a support issue they will probably ask for payment up front in some cases. :)

They have millions and millions of users of Windows out there and no way to call everyone that has minor issues.

You all are right to be suspicious of those calls. I hate to see unsuspecting users get preyed on like this by brazen hacks and thieves. I always think of my mother-in-law getting scammed like this so I tell her to call my wife before she ever makes any decisions over the phone.

There are a couple of rules I think would help in most cases:

1. Never click on a link from email
2. Never do business by phone that you did not solicit yourself

I am sure there are more rules but these two would probably go a long way to help.

I did not let them on my machine! They told me how to pull up the error event log and I put a stop to the conversation the second they asked about getting on line. I asked for a number and company name immediately, the fact they didn't want me to have that number is another big thing that set me off!

The fact they were from India didn't bother me Goat rider, it was that they cold called me. I just wish companies that out sourced would let there foreign employees use there real names, seems rather dishonest to me.

Yeah they are a scam they are trying to get you to give them control of your pc, I had the same problem a few months ago they pry called my phone 5-6x a day majority of the time there would be nobody there when i answered it but a few. If you take the number that they were calling you from and put it in your search browser will most likey come up with a whole list of complaints and more info about them
