will PR work for gun grips?
my dad and I are both IDPA competitors and my dad also makes grips, and he wanted to know if i could cast him some crazy slab to make into grips, but i told him i didnt think PR would hold up to the shock.

its a 1911 in 9mm

will it crack from recoil? will you be able to snug the screws enough without cracking the grips?
thanks in advance!

Doesn't it get "sticky" in the Summer?

(I know nothing about guns, but PR can become tacky in the car---Just wondering)

Ed, The article used fiberglass resin and not straight polyester resin.

There is not a lot of difference, but there is enough, It does not get affected by heat or sunlight the same as the simple casting prs do

alrighty then, i guess ill give it a shot

pun intended, right?? :)

I think your biggest issue will be the screws. You'll want to make sure not to over tighten them. I would recommend using the removable thread lock (blue stuff if I recall) and not tightening much above finger tight.

Looking forward to pics!!

All the better for the grip to grip you ...

I've put aftermarket rubberized grips on an AR15, and really like the feel vs. hard plastic.

OK, I'm driving this a little further off topic ...

Don't know about PR but I do know that Alumilite makes great gun grips. I have a customer who uses my cactus knife scales for gun grips and they look FANTASTIC on a 1911 he showed me! Alumilite will not get sticky in the heat, will not crack, and is on sale this month!
